Synopses & Reviews
A Jewish comic novel, driven by a humour which is both black and bittersweet. A road movie of the mind, it follows Bernard Steinway—an alienated, isolated Jewish intellectual—as he attempts to find a sense of purpose following the collapse of his marriage. His search is both desperate and deluded moving from one self-inflicted disaster to another. In the end he believes himself cured and finally leaves his therapist—he may be convinced that he has regained his sanity but the rest of us know better.
"Unceasingly witty and incisive. This is an exceedingly well written, wonderfully arresting debut."—The Times
