Synopsis
This book is a study of the settlement of legionary veterans during the principate, and discovers why legionary veterans were settled in colonies, when such settlements ceased to be made, and where the men preferred to settle when the choice was left to them.
About the Author
J.C. Mann is an historian at Durham University. The late Margaret Roxan was the leading international expert on Roman military diplomas. She was honorary research fellow at University College London Institute of Archaeology, a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, and corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute.
