My husband and I listened to the discussion of the book on Science Friday. We are both keen to read the book and listen to the discussion and would love to win a copy. Nonetheless, we will buy one and participate!

I listened with intrigue to the introduction of The Lost City of Z on Science Friday. I would love to win this book from NPR and rate it when I'm done!

Just finished this book after also reading "River of Doubt". They complement themselves wonderfully. "Z" is a great read which is filled with wonderful historical tie-in's to such surprising connections as Aurthur Conan Doyle. The climax of the story is truly magnificent. A great read that will stay in your mind for a long time.

I rarely read non-fiction because I'm looking for escapism in my books. This book though was THE best thing I read in 2010 - paced like a novel, it kept my attention and the pages turning. I could barely put it down. Even the ending doesn't disappoint!

This book is a winning combination of a travel narrative and a history lesson. The best I can say about it is that it prompted me to read more about this fascinating subject.

I am in awe of writers that track down letters, journals, military records and people all over the world and then put together a coherent and engaging book. David Grann has done this in this story of Percy Fawcett, the great Amazonian explorer who disappeared in the rain forest with his son, Jack and another man in 1925.

The author skillfully segues between the early searches for 'Z' and his own modern search to learn the fate of the lost expedition. The unbelievable hardships suffered by the early explorers are vividly described, and it becomes clear that some of those hardships were caused by the unyielding character of the leader of the expedition. Although conditions in the Amazon remain similar, the author benefits enormously from modern inventions such as outboard motors, GPS, and improved communications. Yet he makes clear that modern expeditions still may become deadly obsessions. I could not stop reading this book until I reached the end, not sure if it might be published posthumously.
