Synopsis
In ten chapters, this book addresses the relationship of Christianity and science through the lives of Martin Luther and Nicolaus Copernicus. These contemporaries set the stage for new paradigms in theological pursuit and scientific research. Through ties with a single German university, they fostered greater freedom in their own realms of study. Reflecting their Renaissance environment, both men contributed to an atmosphere of freedom from ecclesiastical dominance in pursuing theological and scientific reform. An assessment of their work by early scholars precedes chapters on their individual lives. Analysis of Lutheras theology and Copernicusa research then leads to highlights of their heritage and an assessment of their significance in the twenty-first century.
