About the Author
Ludwig Bemelmans (1898-1962) is a painter, illustrator, and writer for both children and adults. He is best known for Madeline, a seminal picture book in childrens literature and Caldecott Honor book. He wrote six Madeline books altogether, including the Caldecott Medal winning Madelines Rescue. Ludwig Bemelmans grandson, John Bemelmans Marciano, carries on his grandfathers legacy and has written and illustrated four books about Madeline of his own, including Madeline and the Old House in Paris and Madeline at the White House.
