Synopsis
Excerpt from Magazine of American History, Vol. 28: With Notes and Queries; July to December, 1892
When twenty-seven years old, in 1816, Troy was incorporated into a city, and Albert Pawling was the first mayor. Henceforward it outrivaled all rivals in its industrial strides. The products of its manufactories were distributed over the entire world. Church bells made in Troy, called the people of all lands to prayer and praise; collars, cuffs, and shirts from her manufactories became the necessity of the men and women of every clime; the stoves of the classically named city warmed the homes of all people.
