Synopses & Reviews
In this hilarious romp through Hollywood by an award-winning screenwriter, Sex and the City
meets Jackie Collins, serving up a dose of delicious details that only an insider of the movie world could provide.
Gigi Levangie Grazer stormed the book world in 2000 with Rescue Me, a stunning debut that is already being developed into a film by Fox Searchlight. Maneater, her brilliant departure from domestic drama into humor, is the story of a Hollywood climber who finally meets her match. Clarissa Alpert is gorgeous, twenty-eight (read "thirty-one"), charming, and...single. By choice. A "manipulator savant," she is the go-to girl in certain Hollywood circles, always in the know, wearing the right thing, and dating the right actor/director/producer. Everything Clarissa wants, Clarissa gets.
Truth is, however, that Clarissa usually doesn't want what she gets for long. Until she meets Aaron Mason. He is wealthy, funny, good-looking, and best of all the new hot producer in town. From the moment Clarissa lays eyes on him, she hears wedding bells. Now the trick will be actually landing the groom...
"Grazer's satire never loses sight of the hilariously self-centered, devilish core of her creation's fierce personality. Mean-spirited, jaw-droppingly shallow, and hellaciously determined: Clarissa is one for the ages." Kirkus Reviews
"Maneater is like eavesdropping at a D-list Hollywood party; you can't believe someone is saying these things out loud, or how excited you are to overhear them. (Grade: B-)" Amy Feitelberg, Entertainment Weekly
"[A] beach book par excellence....The reader can savor this book's silliness while appreciating its cleverness equally well, and its heroine's essential decency comes through." Janet Maslin, The New York Times
"Maneater labors to be bold, brassy, and bitchy but is instead crude (it's full of the 'f' word) and often tedious....It could work as a film, but it doesn't work as a novel, so save your money." Library Journal
"The heroine's disdain and sarcasm have their appeal, and even romance fans will enjoy." Kathleen Hughes, Booklist
The New York Times Such a beach book par excellence that the sound of surf nearlyaccompanies the turning of its pages.
Candace Bushnell author of Trading Up Stylishly written, great fun!

Feast your eyes on Clarissa.
At twenty-eight (thirty-one), Clarissa Alpert is blessed with a designer wardrobe, a daddy-subsidized apartment, and an A-list speed-dial. Gorgeous and wildly uninhibited, she has amassed a list of exes that amounts to a Who's Who of Hollywood power players. But with her twenty-ninth (thirty-second) birthday looming, she starts to panic. Who on earth could possibly make her an honest woman?
She's reserved a table for two.
Enter Aaron Mason, the latest, hottest new producer in town, who Clarissa decides is the future "Mr. Alpert." With the help of her vivacious friends, her aerobicized Latina mother, her ex-con father, and the most divine gay waiter in Hollywood, Clarissa plans the biggest wedding L.A. has seen in years -- all before the couple's first date. Catching Aaron's eye is not the problem. He just seems to have his own agenda. Could Clarissa have finally bitten off more than she can chew?
Already optioned for a major feature film, Maneater is the hilarious story of a sociopathic Hollywood social climber who meets her match in the unlikeliest of conquests. With delicious details and brilliant characterizations only a woman in the know would know, Maneater has the wicked appeal of Confessions of a Sociopathic Social Climber mixed with the glamour and sexiness of Sex and the City. Clarissa Alpert is the most delectable anti-heroine since Candace Shapiro of Good in Bed.
