About the Author
Sailesh C. Harwani, MD, PhD is trained as an academic physician, combining biomedical research, medical teaching, and clinical practice. Obtaining his BA/BS at the age of 20 from Loyola University Chicago, he enrolled in the Medical Scientist Training (MSTP) program at Rush Medical College in Chicago, IL, where he attained his MD and PhD. Completing internal medicine residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, he is now currently a fellow in the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He has always been interested in medical teaching and has been on staff as a pre-medical and medical instructor/author at Kaplan Inc. since 1997. Trained as an immunologist/microbiologist, Dr. Harwanis research interests include investigating the role of the immune system in cardiac arryhtmias, coronary artery disease, and hypertension.
