Synopsis
Excerpt from Missions and Martyrs in Madagascar
For one-third of a century Madagascar has been, to the civilized world, the sealed land of tragic interest. That the Gospel had obtained a footing there, that the late cruel monarch was exerting all her power to destroy it, and that scenes Of sublime faith and fortitude were being exhibited by the martyrs, was known but beyond this all was concealed beneath the impenetrable vail of secrecy and non-intercourse with the rest of the world within which the island was shrouded.
