About the Author
Professor Larry D. Wells (late) was respected by all who knew him as an outstanding teacher of German who loved the German language and wanted to make it accessible to students. He championed student-centered, communicative learning that made students active partners in the classroom. Professor Wells received his Ph.D. from Ohio State with a specialization in 19th century German literature. His publications, "Literary Texts in Language Instruction," Mitlesen-Mitteilen: Literary Texts for Reading, Speaking and Writing (with Rosmarie T. Morewedge) and Handbuch zur deutschen Grammatik, Wiederholen und Anwenden, are considered by most educators in German as benchmarks in the field of German language instruction. Professor Rosmarie T. Morewedge joined SUNY Binghamton in 1970. She has been Chair of the Department of German, Russian, and East Asian Languages since 1988. Professor Morewedge received her Ph.D. in German with a minor in folklore and Indo-European Mythology from UCLA in 1974. Her teaching and research focus on the German language and literature, the development of narrative-including the fairy tale-- from the Middle Ages to the 20th Century and medieval feminist studies. Strongly interested in international education, she is faculty director of Binghamton University's study abroad programs in Graz, Austria and in Leipzig, Germany. She is actively involved in various professional societies and is currently working on several different research projects. Throughout her career, Professor Morewedge has received numerous awards for her excellence in teaching and service.
