Synopses & Reviews
"After rubbing elbows with Catherine the Great
and living by a strict diet of Voltaire, maidens, and mistresses,
I declare that this saucy tome is fantastico for modern lovers."
Cassanova
"...a spanking good read." Marquis De Sade
Having presented the ultimate portrait of the enlightened male in their 2002 smash The Modern Gentleman ["Completely hysterical and shockingly useful" Augusten Burroughs, Entertainment Weekly], Phineas Mollod & Jason Tesauro explore amour and temptation in a rollicking sequel. The Modern Lover: A Playbook for Suitors, Spouses & Ringless Carousers is the definitive guide for negotiating the road from bachelor pad to bedroom fads to brand-new dad.
Mollod & Tesauro begin by nudging practiced Romeos toward their Art of Bachelor degree (with honors) and a black book full of hard-earned love lessons for pleasing and squeezing a future soulmate. After "One-Night Stands" and "Web-Slinging," test the long arm of puritanical parents by "Living in Sin" and sorting out compatibility àla "Its Jahweh or the Highway." Whether for singles going it ringless, or duos getting hitched, the authors have a stiff drink, clever prose, and cool counsel at the ready.
- From aphrodisiacs to tantra to toys, get under the sheets of commitment and invigorate vanilla relations, survive "bad reviews," and brighten conception with "Daddy Detox."
- Traipse our trail map for weddings unbound by tradition before diving into our fresh approach to "In-Laws & Outlaws," modern anniversaries, and the logistics of playing house.
- With housetrained trust, battle test libidos regarding "The Six Danger Zones" of infidelity, divulge skeletons delicately, and master the wiles of the changeable We-Cycle.
- Old lovers/new tricks: chocolate, cheese plates, pearls, cookbooks, cellaring, and Champagne sabering, not to mention jaunty anniversary gift ideas and vintage high-balls.
Bursting with sharp wit and insight, The Modern Lover offers essential advice for avowed bachelor/-ettes with cheeky résumés, long-term marrieds restocking the toy box, curious couples, serial monogamists, brides-to-be, and grooms-elect. Mod Lovs unmistakable voice is the ultimate source for love-seekers and vow-keepers, serial daters and procreators.
Mod Lov on Guest List: "Your wedding invitation should be a tough ticket....Be merciless: trim the guest list like city social programs under a Republican mayor."
Mod Lov on Alcohol & Pharmacopoeia: "At twenty-five, the party girl who can sniff you under the table and bake a Bundt cake is a temporary allure, but thinking ahead, a pill-crazy mother of two isnt so appealing."
Mod Lov on Going to Pot: "Arrive home from work pushing your briefcase like Sisyphuss stone, microwave dinner, stare at the TV, brush your teeth, and go to bed. Rinse and repeat Monday through Thursday for a dull life."

"The book boasts writing that is a huge cut above the usual self-help dreck, and it's saved from self-importance by its utter hilarity." Jane Ganahl, SF Gate
