Every once in a while I get word on a book that is truly amazing. The type of work that makes you look deeper into yourself and changes your world forever. The Mystic Christ is just that. The Mystic Christ takes the reader guides through various commonly held notions about Christ, the Biblical scriptures, and Religion in general. With many of these examples, people tend to believe in very black and white ways relayed to them only through hearsay. In other words, not only have they not read the actual Biblical passages mentioned but they have no Biblical context with which to place this idea. It is of note that the author considers all spiritual paths as equally valuable, based upon the fact that the majority of belief systems have similar moral principles while supporting a common foundation of love. Thus, the author does not in any way delimit Christianity or the Bible. He does, however, encourage the reader to really consider what he or she believes, understand where those ideals come from, and then really truly commit to adhering to his or her path of love. Quite impressive in and of itself. However, the thing that I appreciated most about this book was the author?s ability to direct in a clear coherent (and sometimes quite entertaining) way without preaching. All of the references (from various religious dogma) were carefully selected to illustrate each particular point. The reader was then left to determine for his or herself the validity of that specific point for him or herself. This aspect starts the reader immediately questioning and really thinking about what is truly important in this existence.
