The book is in the general area of fluid mechanics, which is the study of fluids as they flow through pipes, rivers etc. The aim is to build a mathematical model of the motion of flow, taking into account the thickness of the fluid (for example, oil behaves differently from water), the temperature and other factors.
The book covers topics rarely seen in book form, such as the direct numerical simulation of particulate flow. Most methods discussed in this article are illustrated by the results of numerical experiments, including the simulation of three-dimensional flow.
