“There’s a depth to the darkness of Michener’s characters, which is Irish—always human, always enigmatic.”—Ken McCullough
These eleven stories are about living in a world where grace is often AWOL. As Judy Troy writes, “It is never the author’s hand you see. The boy meeting the damaged brother for the first time, the doctor setting foot in Africa, the carpet cleaner dating the young woman nobody quite understands: the mystery of being human shines—and is allowed to shine—at the center of these gracefully written stories.”
Stories that depict how people deal with the unexpected pleasures in life.
