To mark the 100th birthday of William Steig and in anticipation of the next blockbuster movie Shrek the Third, Macmillan Audio presents The One and Only Shrek!
the must-have collection of Steig classics featuring everyone's favorite ogre, read by Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci.
"Listeners will surely hear the glee dripping from the full-bodied, though never over-the-top, performances by Streep and Tucci, who read three stories apiece. The works of the late, beloved children's author-illustrator are surprisingly successful as stand-alone vivid audio programs even without Steig's terrific, witty watercolors. Both actors apparently relish shifting into various character voices, and Streep, especially, demonstrates a great facility for vocal sound effects. The antics of the talking Amazing Bone, Brave Irene and the putrid, green ogre Shrek himself find a whole new flavor on audio. Fans will find much to love in this top-drawer compendium, and so will those who know Shrek only from the blockbuster film adaptations. Ages 5-up. A sunny, pop-folk vibe pervades Taylor's multimedia concept album for kids. The 10 original, upbeat songs feature a character named Gustafer Yellowgold who hails from the sun, as well as his quirky cast of friends, including flightless pterodactyl Forrest Applecrumble and pet eel Slim. A DVD containing minimally animated versions of Taylor's illustrations allow listeners to share the experience of the Gustafer Yellowgold live shows that Taylor has performed on tour. The catchy guitar riffs, storytelling lyrics and Taylor's bright, versatile singing voice are sure to attract listeners from a wide swath. The blend of silly subject matter and serious musicianship keeps this sound from growing stale upon repeated play. All ages."
