Solschenizyn's book is the first description of the Russian gulag.
It is a first person account of the constant hustle of a day in the life of a prisoner in Siberia from the moment he opens his eyes to the moment he falls asleep. It is simply written, without bitterness or sermonizing, and it resonates long after it is over.
Made me think of a day in the life of homeless folks and other marginalized people.
