A bomb explodes near a downtown Chicago health clinic, killing many and trapping dozens underneath the rubble. The health clinic was one that was targeted by pro-life activists and it just so happens that a convention of the various pro-life groups was in town that weekend. But baseball player Scott Carpenter isn't concerned about the coincidences surrounding the timing of the bombing - he's terrified because his lover, high school teacher Tom Mason was volunteering at the clinic when the bomb went off and is now missing. Frantically sifting through the rubble with the other volunteers and emergency workers, Scott is on the scene when the second bomb explodes, killing a number of the rescue personnel and reducing the scene to chaos.
But Scott is lucky - Tom is found unconscious and severely hurt but alive. With Tom in the hospital in a coma, Scott goes back to the scene to pick up Tom's truck when a third bomb explodes. This time the bomb was wired to Tom's truck. To make matter's worse, Scott start receiving threats saying, "You're next." Unsure whether the attacks were aimed at the clinic or at his lover, and with Tom in the hospital struggling for his life, Scott has no idea of where to turn for help. Because with a very long list of suspects and a mounting death toll, it is up to Scott to find the killer before the killer can get to them.
