June had finally come. School was out, and the Gulf Coast beaches of Mississippi were crawling with tourists and fun—everything but her. Gina worked summers at her father's restaurant, a small place called the Shack that sold shrimp, po-boys, and other southern-style foods. This left her little time for friends or play, and she hated it. This season was especially busy because there was an abundance of shrimp in the warm gulf waters, and it was the bestseller. This one tiny detail, shrimp, would affect and change her whole summer, and the rest of her life.
