Synopses & Reviews
The origin of the moon is a still unsolved question of geophysics and space science.Researchers engaged in celestial dynamics, geologists and planetary scientists still are discussing different models. The most popular one, the impact hypothesis involving a collision early in Earth's history, is being substantially challenged by data from a NASA probe in 2011. The origin of planet-moon system is a question also of interest for the investigation of planet formation in general, both within and outside of our solar system, and thus touches one of the hottest topics of current astrophysical research. There is a need for a volume to convey and compare the currently discussed theories and discuss their advantages and shortcomings in explaining the experimental data.
