The name Leakey brings to mind images of the desert, sand, archeological digs, Lucy the Cro Magnon woman and such. Unfortunately for the readers non of that is here. The book does revisit important studies and research from the past 20 years or so. So while it is informative its not nearly as exciting as some earlier works including those of his father Dr.Louis Leakey. I must admit to having a crush on Dr. Richard while in high school and proudly told my father I would marry an archaeologist and live in the desert. He laughed and said your better off reading about this. Its 120 degrees in the African sun and you can only be out in the sun in our backyard for 15 minutes. Of course he was right and this book is an important interesting read just not as glamorous as earlier works.
