About the Author
Dr. Hamilton began her career in early childhood education in the 1980s as a child care teacher. Dr. Hamilton also coordinates the division of Children, Families and Schools at UMass Amherst; and she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in child development, early childhood education, and elementary education. Her research interests include early literacy, early childhood curriculum, the social context of schooling, and technology-based learning and teaching.
Dr. Schwanenflugel teaches graduate and undergraduate courses for educators on educational psychology, human development, and psycholinguistics. Her research interests include early literacy, reading fluency, and vocabulary development and their instruction. She has authored or coauthored four books and numerous articles and chapters on early literacy and conceptual development in young children, among other topics.
