When I purchased this book, I assumed it was going to be one of those pull-a-poster from the spine type dealies. Instead, I received a gorgeously bound collection with multiple illustrative thumbnails per page along with descriptions. I really enjoyed discovering new facts about long-dead artists from long-dead eras, and the factoids were just tantalizing enough to send me scurrying for Wiki to get more info.
The majority of the posters are, of course, French as France produced the maestri of the golden age of posters. There are more than 500 illustrations, which makes this a permanent bookshelf addition. While I'll never be able to afford such magnificent originals, it's fun to see how much the mass produced replicas are worth, as I now have my own primer in hand.
Book Season = Year Round (coffee table book of the highest level)
