Synopses & Reviews
In introducing this theoretical physics text based mainly on his original journal articles and postings on the Los Alamos Archives, Berman (Instituto Albert Einstein, Curititba, Brazil) states his view of science as a tool against discrimination and injustice as he had faced under the Brazilian dictatorship. Upper-level undergraduates and beginning graduate students can choose to skip the preliminary treatment of tensor calculus presented in relation to the latest theories of black holes, gravitational energy, and Mach's principle. Unlike Stephen Hawking, he is noncommital about whether a super-unified approach to these forces is possible.
