Purple Hibiscus is a stunning coming-of-age story featuring fifteen-year-old Kambili, whose world appears to be orderly, respectable, and predictable. In fact, her family life is a hellish nightmare warped by her tortured, dictatorial father. When Kambili and her brother visit their aunt and her family, they discover a world filled with laughter and love, instead of one defined by silence, rigidity and rage. Each major character in this novel will undergo a melange of changes, as violence descends upon their beloved homeland, Nigeria.
