About the Author
Sam Hunter is a fiber artist and quilt designer who considers her sewing machine to be the ultimate power tool. Sam spent her formative years hopping back and forth between her native England and the United States. She settled on the West Coast in her twenties, after the birth of her son, Steve.
Sam started sewing when she was seven and hasn't really stopped since. She considers herself fortunate to have been taught the needlecrafts from a lineage of creative family members and womenfolk. She began quilting in 1989 and teaching shortly thereafter.
Sam earned her MFA in fiber arts in 2010 and is thrilled to have written her last-ever term paper. The fact that she gleefully escaped formal academia only to then write this book is a situation whose irony is not lost on her.
Sam launched Hunter's Design Studio, her pattern design company, in 2011 and is the Word Girl behind the Sew Sassy designs. She is a fun and humorous speaker and a relaxed and encouraging teacher. Sam is also the founder of We Are $ew Worth It, a movement to help quiltmakers and sewists earn a living wage for the things they make. You can reach her at huntersdesignstudio.com.
