Synopsis
This sourcebook contains a variety of information on the time-keeping and holiday traditions of the world's major religions and minor religious groups. The second edition has been completely revised, reorganized, and expanded. It now covers more than 400 sacred feasts, fasts, and festivals observed by people from more than 20 different religious groups.
Religious Holidays and Calendars, 2nd edition is organized in two sections. Part I covers the history of calendars and includes four in-depth essays. Part II presents facts and details about major religions such as Baha'i, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Native American Tribal Religions, and more. Each religion is covered in separate chapters. Within each chapter, there are three major areas covered: introductory background of the religion, overview of the liturgical calendar for the religion, and chronological list of each religion's holidays.
