Synopsis
Excerpt from Report of Program Activities: National Cancer Institute
Further study of these birds with infectious agammaglobulinemia demonstrated that the suppressor T cells develop in the donor birds after 10 weeks of age and are not in detectable quantities before that time. Immunoglobulin produc tion in the recipient birds ceased almost immediately after injection with the suppressor cell population suggesting that these cells may be exerting an effect directly on the immunoglobulin producing plasma cells. B lymphocytes are initially present in normal numbers in the recipient birds but eventually fall to low numbers further suggesting that the suppressor cell may also act directly on B cells or their precursors.
