Review
"
Resistance and Survival is significant because it faithfully recounts the bitter fate of the Jews in the Kaunas ghetto and the fate of the Jewish resistance fighters... We find a convincing answer to the many questions that are still painful and debatable..."
--Professor Elvyra Uzkurelyte-Baltiniene, Gaires Vilnius 1999
Synopsis
An original collection of short fiction which chronicles the traumas inflicted upon and experienced by children during the Holocaust. Via a chorus of voices, both adult and child, the reader journeys from the ominous onset of the war on the streets of Lublin through internment in the ghettoes. The readers become proxy witnesses at the sites of death, through suffering, some survival, and finally - for some - liberation. THe collection includes stories of children in hiding, and children who assumed false identities. It also includes stories of those 'righteous' individuals who protected the condemned and saved precious lives. Some of these highly evocative stories have been previously published in Midstream, Jewish Current, and Parchment.
