Lane Montgomery works for the stalwart Daily News in Louisville, while her rival, Ann Alexander, works for the new upstart tabloid in town. Not only is Anne gorgeous and seductive, she is also ruthless about getting stories to press ahead of Lane-the more sensational the better. When Lane decides to do a human-interest story behind an apparent hit and run of young black boy, she finds out it looks more like murder. Worse, it looks like the victim was a petty drug dealer, a small cog in a large and ruthless machine. When she runs into Ann, pursuing the story from a totally different lead, they begin to cooperate. But how much can Lane trust Ann? She is determined she will not be out-scooped this time, no matter what her personal feelings are. But is her passion her undoing?
A human interest story turns into serious investigative reporting when a hit-and-run death turns out to be the murder of a punk drug dealer.
