Synopsis
Sin and Punishment portrays the brutal family dynamics that evolve from a religion and God addiction. The story takes place in the first half of the century, beginning in Arkansas and ending in Mississippi. The Reverend Clyde Elwood Potts, the patriarch of the family, is a man with a compulsive behavior pattern who unwittingly becomes a religion and God addict. His wife and three children are not the only subjects of his verbal and physical abuse. The Reverend inflicts his abuse on everyone who crosses his path and questions his commands and beliefs. He twists the Scriptures to justify his every word and action as coming directly from God. The addiction in this story exemplifies the devastation that can take place when a family member(s) uses religion and God as a drug. In the Potts family, this addiction is at the very core, from which insanity and murder evolves.
