Review
This anthology originated in a conference on the subject held at the University of Calgary.... Several scientific, social-scientific, and legal perspectives are brought to bear on the subject in a series of interesting and worthwhile essays. Sections include `Social Movements`; `The Legal Response`; `The Media, Technology and the Environment`; and `Public Policy, Determinism, and Change.` The stustantive content is often related to Canadian cases, a refreshing change from the usual American bias in such collections.... Many pages of the book are devoted to environmental degradation as a consequence of the exploitation of forest lands, mining resources, and undersea oil. Other papers deal with `appropriate` technology and problem of the social and political determination of technological paths.... The work is a useful addition to library collections on environmentalism and technology assessment.Choice
