Synopsis
One of the most ruthless and authoritian dictators in world history, Stalin governed the Soviet Union with a tyrannical hand for nearly thirty years. In 1922, he became General Secretary of the Communist Party and, in 1928, implemented the first of his 5 year plans. Any remaining opposition was eliminated by the Great Purge 1936-8, and by the outbreak of World War II he was in complete control of the country. He died in 1953.
