The market structure of both buyers and sellers is clearly relevant to the incentives for standardization. Users Often pay dearly for the absence Of standards, thus, they should be the principal supporters of standardization. Buyers may be fragmented, however, and unable to coordinate their demands. Where buyers are few and powerful. They can more easily exert pressure on sellers to Standardize, or force standards by coordinating their purchase specifications.
Concentration among buyers should thus favor standardization.
