Synopses & Reviews
Globalization has spurred economic growth and contributed to a reduction in poverty in the ESCAP region over the past four decades. The impact of globalization has not been uniform and socio-economic disparities exist between countries and, within their borders particularly, in Asia and the Pacific. To alleviate the negative aspect of globalization, this study calls for greater attention to social development. It argues that for economic development to continue, social development must be self-sustaining. For this to occur, adequate investment in human resources is required, and the most effective contribution is employment. This study will benefit policy makers, planners, administrators, and academics in the formulation and implementation of effective policies and in building national capacities for the people in the Asian and Pacific region.
