Following a betrayal by an abusive step-father, Ellen is taken, by her grandparents, to the house of a brick manufacturer in the Lancashire town of Horwich, to work as a kitchen maid. Determined for a better future, Ellen takes every opportunity to further herself and is promoted to ladys maid. But the advancement in her status attracts declarations of love from three very different men: John, the masters son; Charlie, a farmers lad; and Leslie, her mistresss fiancée. Jealousy and betrayal plague her life once more and grasping hold of a better tomorrow is a dream beginning to slip away.
About the Author
Karen Abbott was born in Bolton, Lancashire and trained as a teacher. She is married with three children and seven grandchildren and now lives in Rainford, Merseyside. Having taken early retirement, Karen now dedicates herself to writing full-time and has had thirty novellas published. Her previous novels A Most Rebellious Debutante and A Father for Daisy were also published by Robert Hale.
