Synopsis
The fall of this Aztec civilization before the Spanish Conquistadors resulted in the loss of its art, its religion, its social structure, and its language-all that a people must maintain if they are to attain their destiny. The development of the arts and sciences, and the growth of the communities of the ancient Mexican empire came to an abrupt halt; and then began the gradual sinking and disintegration of a great people which lasted four centuries. It would be difficult indeed to find in history a more convincing example of the complete disaster that might befall a people when stripped of its native culture.
