Review
Heuman traces the social history of the Caribbean Islands from theregion's earliest inhabitants to cultural and political developments in the recent past. His research has centered on slave andpost-emancipation societies, but response to the first edition has convinced him to add more material about the indigenous populationsand the modern Caribbean to the second edition. He has also updated both the content and the references. Among the topics are theAmerindians and European patterns of settlement, from slavery to freedom, the Africanization of the Caribbean, labor protests and the1930s, and contemporary themes in the Hispanic and the wider Caribbean.Annotation ©2014 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
