Excerpt from The Committee on Indian Affairs to Whom Was Referred the Bill (S 2870) To Ratify and Confirm an Agreement With the Cherokee Nation of Indians of the Indian Territory, to Make Appropriation for Carrying Out the Same, and for Other Purposes
The matter being subsequently brought to the attention of Secretary Vilas in the Kesterson case, so called, in a letter written by him to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs, August 21, 1888, the Secretary said.
