"While the Internet abounds with roll after roll of duct tape projects, folklore and instruction in the finer points of taping right-angle flat surfaces or making duct tape straps, Dobson, a photographer and multidisciplinary artist, has culled both the basics and the bests from the web and combined them with her personal creations. Readers won't stay stuck long on the art of sourcing tape, stencils, and ideas for bear-face book bags, bicycle panniers, board games; she even turns brown-bagging into a yellow- and zebra-stripe lunchtime lift. Dobson details the perils and pitfalls (always buy cloth-backed adhesive tape, look for the thicker kind with more fibers), along with quick historical references (the role of duct tape in WWII, Vietnam, and on Apollo 13, not to mention the invention of the first aluminum lunch box -- by a Canadian miner who sat on his lunch). The pages of each project are lined with actual patterns of available duct tape on the market, from pink polka dots to penguins, peppermints - and a skull and crossbones here and there. Ample, detailed directions help create everything from a pair of brown chaps to a Christmas tree topper.
