This abridgment of Tryntje Helfferich's acclaimed 2009 anthology The Thirty Years War features an expanded General Introduction and annotation designed to support student readings in swift-moving surveys of European and World history.
Helfferich lets the people who lived through the war tell the storiesthey wrote in diaries, diplomatic correspondence, personal letters, broadsheets, and treaties. He arranges the documents in sections onthe outbreak of Thirty Years War 1618-23, the intervention of Denmark and Sweden 1623-35, the long war 1235-48, and two wartimelives 1918-48.
