Excerpt from The Sources of Chaucer's Parlement of Foules
The tension is broken by an old man from among the people of the neighborhood, who addresses the young men respectfully, as one of low degree to his betters, and ventures to suggest that the inhabitants of that particular region had found a means of settling disputes.
