Synopsis
Johnny Dunne, the Boss, is a poor, tough, but increasingly desperate smallholder with a dozen children, and Mary, a loving, loyal and bewildered wife. While her husband's life is a permanent battle against children, relatives, neighbours, police, planners, priests, and authority generally, Mary quietly looks after her brood, but secretly longs to return to the mystical Galway of her childhood. The Boss's life is shattered by an accident to his beloved daughter Babs, who emigrates to America, leaving behind a sorrowing father and a brother Jack, who has his own problems, including being incarcerated in the Weighing Room. Told with humour and sensitivity, this is a sad, funny and heart warming story of a Dublin family who in spite of all, live to tell the tale, and even laugh.
