Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

This Book makes us learn Electronics in a very simple fun filled way by taking us into the world of Fantasy...... It's actually so fun and entertaining to read that, like a good novel, you won't be able to put it down. Every element of Electronics is referred by a character of his world of electronic imagination. Take a look at the description of How current flows by Author...... Amdahl clearly explains electrons by (playfully) rejecting them all together. Electrons are a hoax, he declares, a conspiracy perpetrated by high school science teachers and guys who wear thick glasses and think pocket protectors are a sensible fashion statement. Why? Because the "truth" is far too strange to believe: that invisible Gremlin-like beasties called Greenies are what's actually behind what we've been told are protons and electrons. It is these Greenies' need to "hook up" with each other that generates electricity. Okay, so it's a really silly analogy, and reading the book makes you frequently wonder what Mr. Amdahl spikes his coffee with, but it is actually a great way to remember what does what in an electrical circuit. So, bear with us as we step through the electronic looking glass into the world of the Greenie Theory of electronics: Electrons are actually the males in a species of invisible critters called Greenies. The males hang out waiting for female Greenies to come along so they can party with them. Protons are the female Greenies. Where they gather, they generate a huge need to party on the part of the male Greenies. We know this "need to party" as voltage. The urge finally becomes so great that the male Greenies rush to where the female Greenies are. We know this intense traffic of male Greenies as current. As the male Greenies travel along available routes to join the females, they might encounter a road condition, such as a narrow bridge, that slows their movement. We know these traffic obstacles as resistors. The (negative) male Greenies will go to any lengths to get to the (positive) female Greenies. We humans harness this need to party and this flow of male Greenies to create all of the amazing things to which we give credit to boring ol' electrons. That should get you started thinking Greenie. Just hold in your mind the vision of a bunch of rascally little green dudes starting out from the negative terminal of a battery (or other power source), and jumping through every hoop we humans put before them in a circuit. They perform every trick asked of them in their tireless efforts to hook up with the female Greenies—calling them to party, on the positive side of the battery. "At the end i would just say its really a great book and referred to me by many other books and Authors........"
