About the Author
Alexandre Dumas (1802-70) was born in northern France. He achieved fame as a writer of historical melodramas for the stage before wining even greater success as a novelist. Two of his books, The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo, rank among the most popular novels of all time. His action-packed stories have been adapted for the big and small screens time and time again, ensuring Dumas's lasting fame and popularity all over the world. Victor Ambrus was born in Budapest, Hungary, where he studied at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Art, continuing his studies at the Royal College of Art in London. He went on to illustrate more than 250 books, and has won the Kate Greenaway Medal twice. He has also illustrated Black Beauty in the Dorling Kindersley Classics series.
