Excerpt from To the People of Suffolk, of All Parties
You see that more than twice as much specie was brought here as was sent away, the years they stated so much was sent away, it made the specie so scarce, that it was one great cause of the hard times. They will not deny this in any public paper, I presume, though it is rather a hard case to be convicted by our own wit ness, of telling that which is not true, to deceive and mislead the people, which of all crimes, in my opinion, is deserving the great est punishment.
