I bought this book because the author has a very different life history than mine and I wanted to learn from his experiences, and because from reading his Substack posts I found myself both agreeing and disagreeing with him in different ways. I came away with even more respect for his way of expressing himself than I had before.
Rob, as he says, basically had no family in the sense of parents in a long-term relationship as he went through the foster care system from a very young age. But he came out of this challenging circumstance successfully as a result of luck, a few adults who mentored him, and his own abilities, which he learned how to utilize successfully enough to now be a doctoral student pursuing an advanced degree and a very successful author and podcaster.
If you like to learn and grow from others who have different life experiences and beliefs than your own, I heartily recommend this thoughtful memoir to you.
