Gallery Of The Greatest Trains: The main body of the book provides a photographic gallery of trains that traces the development of the major types of passenger, freight, urban, and special-purpose trains from around the world over the last two centuries. Included within this chronological gallery are unique portraits of landmark trains, from Stephenson's Rocket to the latest German maglev, the Transrapid. Dramatic large-format photographs along with detailed close-ups and interior shots give the reader a guided tour of these key trains. Also featured are absorbing profiles of the world's most famous railroad services, including the Orient Express and the Canadian Pacific. Unique Biographical Section: Gaining a complete picture of these trains would not be possible without a look at the designers, engineers, and innovators who were responsible for them, so an extensive biographical section profiles the people who changed the face of transportation.
