The short stories attempt to systematize the engagement of the individual narrators with their worlds. The novel excerpt---the Kickaround Nixon of Kickaround Nixon (And Other Stories)---is a fictional account of the 1983 U.S. National Videogame Tournament. The novel takes much of its structure from Melville's Moby-Dick, but with the characters of Ishmael and Ahab switched position-wise to better mesh with the zeitgeist of the 1980s. Moreover, the novel attempts to explore the subjects of homosexuality, potentiality spaces, history, and the Information Age.
