Synopsis
Excerpt from Who Invented the Screw Propeller?: Were the Patented Propellers of Francis Pettit Smith in Every Respect Direct Plagiarisms?
I should be sorry that anything I have stated under the first head, respecting the eminent gentlemen who took so prominent a part in the early introduction of the Screw Propeller, should be construed as in any Way reflecting upon them. To do so, they may rest assured, I have not the remotest intention. They are, so far as I can judge, worthy of greater honour than has yet been accorded to them, for their indefatigable and praiseworthy exertions in establishing so speedily and successfully the practical introduction of so useful and universal an art.
