Even in the earliest stages, when he only beheld her well-dressed person quite unaware of his presence, the centre of a senseless chattering crowd in which the deli cate richness of her voice always took the lead, she was to Andrew as a sacred hush in a godless babel, in the midst of clotted discord a most simple harmony.
